It’s a Beautiful Morning . . .

I wake up before my alarm sounds feeling, amazing, ready to greet the day. Stretch and don’t even hit the snooze button when the alarm does go off. Wow. It’s going to be an awesome day!

I start my coffee, feed Diva, my dog, then prep my vitamins etc for the the day and hit the on button for my radio. That done, I grab my freshly brewed coffee and head for the couch with my laptop. First the crossword puzzle, peruse my email, read the newspapers and then a little writing.

Coffee cup is placed in it usual position and I’m about to sit down when I realize I don’t hear any music playing. I check on the system and it seems to be having a bit of trouble connecting. This happens sometimes on that device. Start over tune-in radio, pick the station hit the play button and head back to the couch confident that music will be playing soon.

I open my laptop, hit the icon and get ready to do my crossword puzzle. Usually, there is a number in the mail icon of how many emails have been received. Weird. Nothing. I blindly continue waiting for the crossword to appear.

The icon for internet shows a full spectrum of rays. I must be connected, right? I next click on my mail icon. Uh oh. There is a triangle with an exclamation point. Never a good sign. No new mail. I tap the triangle and an option for the ‘connection doctor’ comes up, so I click on it.

I go back to the crossword puzzle page, ’Unable to connect’ comes up. This is not good. I click on Facebook in the menu bar. Same thing. Okay, it must be the internet. Good thing I have a cell phone and not a VOIP. I call my provider and am informed that there is an outage in my area. RATS!

What? I woke up early, planned my day and now this? Wait, I could turn on the TV. My personal rule is that the TV does not get turned on before 4 or 5 pm. Radio or music is okay just no visual stimuli during the day time hours. I find that when the TV is on I get sucked into the vortex and loose track of time. On goes the TV, but it’s not working either.

iTunes, that’s right, I’ve got iTunes on my computer. I can get some background noise going with that. Whew, No more absolute silence! I forgot. When I had my computer worked on, I didn’t reload all of my music. AND, the stuff in the ‘cloud’ can’t be downloaded as there is no internet connection! Hold on, I’ve got some Beach Boy songs that aren’t in the cloud so that should get me through for a while.

I gather up a few quick mending jobs and the supplies needed and retreat to my couch to work. I finish those. I’ve already cleaned up after the girls were over on Saturday. I have started some clothes in the wash. I’ve been at this for almost 3 hours now and still no outside contact through internet or TV.

What an odd feeling, being unable to instantly network with the outside world. My phone is even unable to connect to the internet. I wonder if it is a wide spread outage? I don’t have an AM or FM radio handy so can’t even hook up that way. How dependent to the internet I am. I rummage through a closet and find and old clock radio. The alarm doesn’t work but the radio part does.

Success. I have a signal and have at least one clear channel. It’s not my usual listening fare, Jazz but  Country music. I’m glad to at least have reception and am able to hear a live voice. Yes, the world has not come to an end.

The load of wash is now in the dryer. The dishes done. Accomplished a bit of writing now . . .

Still no internet.

I give up, think I’ll go back to bed and start over.
