THE CLOSET

THE CLOSET

Eleven and a half years ago
I packed up our family home
Boxes and boxes of our life together
Moved thousands of miles East
And into a home purchased by myself
A new adventure
A new beginning
Photos were hung
Items we bought together
Placed on shelves
Seen daily
Reminders of you

And now . . .

I am packing again
Boxes of my life alone
Filled with elements
Of joy and laughter
Friendships made
They are moving
Thousands of miles West
Back to the roots
Of our life together

It is the anniversary of your birth
And I face the task of

The Closet…

Boxes and boxes
Placed in this space
Pieces of you
To save and cherish
Your instruments and cases
Your things from the rolltop desk
Your lyric cards for the solos you sang
Your final sketches drawn
Your years of photos
Of family and friends

So much emotion
So many memories
Your absence felt
You are
Loved dearly still

It is empty now
All the boxes and possessions
Prepared for another move
Home
To our Children and grandsons
They will enjoy learning of you
Through the stories and pieces
I can share with your belongings
A new adventure
A new beginning
A new opening of the
Closet boxes. . .
Welcoming you home my love
