Yoga Anyone?

While surfing the net recently, I came across some yoga classes that I have never heard of before. SUP Yoga, Goat Yoga and Rage Yoga. Yes, you have read them correctly.

Let’s start with SUP Yoga: Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga.

What is a Stand Up Paddleboard? An SUP is similar to a surfboard. One uses a paddle to navigate the water and does not sit on the board. As with a surfboard, you ride the waves as well.

Classes are offered in pools, lakes and the ocean.

The classes in the pool are interesting as the lane lines are left connected and each participant is expected to stay in their designated lane area. To begin, one gets up on the board and starts doing basic yoga poses. The difficulty is that the board is not stable thus strengthening your core. (I think if I were to try this yoga, I would start in the pool.)

The lake classes are similar to the pool in that the water is gently lapping at the shore so there isn’t too much rocking and rolling. No lane lines but you get the drift.

The ocean or beach yoga seems as if it would be the most difficult as one would be battling the constant waves. I seriously doubt that I would even be able to kneel on the board let alone stand up or be able to do a pose!

On to Goat Yoga.

These classes are usually conducted on farms. As the yoga enthusiasts are directed through the poses, the goats are free to roam the instruction area. The goats like to climb on backs, cuddle and generally prance on and around the students.

One must be comfortable with animals to attend a class like this one. I’m not sure if I would like to give this yoga a try.

Next up, Rage Yoga

Rage Yoga is not for the faint of heart or those seeking a Zen experience. For these classes it is BYOB, Rock or Heavy Metal Music and Cursing. The class begins with a little quiet breathing and then all bets are off. The music is turned up and the profanity abounds.

Many attendees swear (pun intended) that they feel great after the workout. They get to release their anger and enjoy hoisting a beer, glass of wine or other libation afterwards. Let the F-Bombs, grunting rage and histrionics commence.

Take your Paddle Board to a Goat Farm along with your Martini and drink up. Cheers!
