Make Overs

While enjoying our coffee, my girlfriends and I started talking about Rock stars and older men. Steven Tyler’s name was mentioned. . .

Oh my, Oh my. We started wondering. . . If Steve were a woman, would the public tolerate ‘her’ continuing to dress as she had in the 70’s? Long stringy hair, sometimes with a feather accent or other adornment, torn jeans, ripped sleeveless shirts etc.

A resounding NO! Was heard. The Fashion police would be criticizing everything about her. First the clothing, telling her it was inappropriate for her age. Suggestions would be made as to what styles work for ‘her’ body type along with colors and length of skirt/dress. If wearing jeans; clean, un-torn and well fitting, not so tight that you can’t even sit down would be on the list as well.

Next the Stylists would ring in regarding the hair. Long and stringy only accentuates the wrinkles and brings the face down aging it and making ‘her’ look old, sad and haggard. A shorter more complimentary ‘do’ and a new hair color is recommended.

Another Rocker that needs a make over is Gene Simmons. Now his Kiss make-up is a trademark and there is no need to change that. It is the day to day look that needs an update. Let’s start with the hair.

Really Gene? Just admit it, the Brillo pad look is passé. The thing you do with your hands, cupping your hair lovingly as you preen in the mirror has to end. I bet you don’t even know you do that. Yes, we understand your hair is your ‘crowning glory’. It is a habit by now and an unconscious move that you’ve been doing for years and years. A Cease and Desist order has now been proclaimed! Cut it shorter and admit that your hair is thinning, no amount of teasing it will have looking like it did when you were 25 or 30. You would look so much better with a good haircut.

Gene’s choice for clothing is basically okay. Those ‘leather’ pants though? They should be shelved permanently.

Mick Jagger. What is there to say about old Mick and the crew? The hair is okay but those skin tight jeans, open shirts, headbands and sparkly shirts and jackets. STOP. Enough already. You aren’t 25 anymore or 45. Now, even 60 was some time ago. Tone it down just a little guys.

If your parents or older family members dressed and cavorted like these aging Rockers, you’d want to disavow any relationship to them and ignore them at all costs.

These guys can’t seem to get a decent entire look down. Steve has both hair and clothing issues. Gene has hair problems and Mick, it’s the clothes. Why do we accept these aging male’s looks with no complaints or outspoken discussions?

Women in the public eye get it all the time. Hillary stopped wearing dresses after the famous ‘cankle’ photo and ensuing rude and hurtful remarks. It didn’t stop there though. Then it was why does she only wear pant suits. Think about it. Would you put on a dress or skirt, expose your lower legs and bring back the ‘cankle’ comments? Not me! Just can’t make any of the fashion police happy.

There is never any mention that guys fashion doesn’t seem to change. They wear the same old standard suit and tie with a white or pale colored shirt. There is very little variation other than width and color of ties or size of the lapels on the jacket. They can even get away with wearing the same out fit over and over. Even jeans on the bottom a sport coat and an open shirt, no tie and still get a pass. Let a woman try to wear the same out fit within 3 days and Oh, the uproar over her fashion sense.

Both young and old females get the treatment. They cut their hair or change the color and it is big news with pro and con commentary from all corners. Kelly Osbourne with her shaved sides and purple hair. Michelle Obama’s Bangs were another hot topic as well as her ‘sleeveless’ dresses. How dare she show her arms, LOL.

The only recent male figure to get the ‘hair’ treatment is Donald Trump. AND deservedly so. His hair has a life of its own. It does need a lot of work. Comb overs only work for so long, if at all. I knew a man who did a pompadour combover. He had lovely white hair that came from the back of his head and formed this ‘poof’ at the front. It didn’t move. I mean not ever. Not even in the wind or anything. He took longer to do his hair than his wife! Dave’s hair was a sight to see for sure.

Now, don’t get discouraged women. We do have someone to look up to and admire . . .

Take a look at Tina Turner! Now Tina? She’s a class act. Yes, her outfits are a little short but she pulls it off! She doesn’t take it into the cartoonish phase. She just struts her stuff and looks darn good doing it. Tina is one Rocker who makes you want to be her. She’s got it all going on.

Let’s get our inner Tina’s Rocking!

YOU Go Girls.
